Last weekend, Greg and I headed down to Peoria, IL to play a fundraiser at the Landmark Recreation Center. Felix and Fingers loves any opportunity to get people singing and dancing with us, but doing it for a good cause? Sign us up! The ICPR Family Practice out of Pekin, IL does a “Jingle Bell Run” every December for the Arthritis Foundation, so Felix and Fingers stopped by a couple months early to help raise money for the event.
The Landmark Recreation Center
When we pulled up to the Landmark Recreation Center, I was shocked at how much that facility had to offer! We were setting up in one of their banquet rooms, (yes- there was more than one…) but there was also a sports bar AND bowling alley in the same building!! This room was absolutely perfect for this event. They offered a full bar, plenty of space for a buffet, dinner seating and a dance floor, and what banquet hall is complete without a disco ball?! Aside from that, the staff was very accommodating- they were so easy to work with and it really made for a great event for everyone!
Singing and Dancing for a Good Cause
Normally, I get a little anxious about corporate events. Weddings typically make it easier to get people dancing because it’s likely everyone there is friends and family and are not afraid to get up and dance in front of each other. Corporate events sometimes provide a challenge on that subject, because typically coworkers aren’t as comfortable with each other, which makes our job a little harder. The folks at ICPR gave us nothing to worry about. It seemed like they’d all been good friends for ages and were totally united in raising money for a cause they all clearly cared about. In fact, we received a tip that one of the doctors from the practice would get up to sing with a little encouragement, so we made sure to call him out in the middle of the event. When we asked him what he wanted to sing, he took a moment and then asked if we knew the classic Beatles tune, “Yesterday.” Greg began to play it, and then to our surprise, he started singing some alternate lyrics… about Chik-fil-A! It was hilarious and everyone got a kick out of seeing their coworker take the stage in bold fashion. I was relieved later that I had the presence of mind to get some of it on video.
Overall it was a great FUNdraiser (couldn’t resist…) and seeing everyone sing and dance and enjoy themselves all night was just icing on the cake. I’m not sure the Landmark Recreation Center will ever see anything like that Chik-fil-A song again anytime soon, but then you never do know what will happen at a Felix and Fingers dueling show!
