Handwrytten - Felix And Fingers Dueling Pianos

Manage Handwrytten Notes

Gig Score from player (1-5)2

The venue kinda messed us over. When I asked where cocktails was going to be, I didn't get much info, so I ended up setting up in the wrong place and having to move. This resulted in me being 6 minutes late to having the cocktail music ready.
For context, the venue is a chain, and had double-booked the venue that the bride actually wanted.
There wasn't enough seating for the guests, which I'm sure was another compromise for the bride.
Then there was the mad rush for me to get the music started in the correct location.
Then, the beer was apparently warm, and she began to cry.
Her sister came in and yelled at the venue. Swear words and all. She was a bit harsh with me, to a totally understandable level.

Once cocktails was going, people were glaring at me and all the venue workers.
At the end of cocktails, the bride wanted music in the cocktail area to continue while music in the venue began, and I simply did not have enough equipment for that. I only have the one soundboard and one device to play music on. I transferred as quickly as possible.

At this point, the venue is breathing down my neck about everything and instructing me very closely about every step of the process. I simply allow it. It seems like they needed somebody to beat on and blame for a bit.

I just let everybody blame me for the time being. I can turn it around.

Reception:
Ingrid and I started on time and did wall-to-wall requested bangers, and kept the dance floor going the whole time.
They asked for us to extend the show for 15 minutes. I said I'm ok with it if Ingrid's ok with it. Ingrid agreed and we continued with the show.

At the end of the evening, I played their wedding song L-O-V-E as their final dance. She almost cried.

The bride and groom ended up tipping us in an envelope at the end of the night and the sister of the bride and maid of honor apologized for yelling at me. I told her it's fine. I totally understand.

Afterwards, during teardown, the venue was very impressed with us and was discussing the evening. I was very gentle, but in a manner of expressing a need, I said, "By the way, when I asked where cocktails was, and you kinda gestured through that wall and said 'over there,' I thought cocktails was on the porch at this corner, cause I don't really know this venue."

She looked really sad for a second and said, "So that's my fault, too."
I said, "It was just a miscommunication. It happens sometimes."

I need a separate setup for cocktails. Having to transfer gear simply takes time, and the reception generally begins at the end of cocktails.
There is not a window to tear down, relocate, and set up the gear. There simply needed to be another sound set up for cocktails for this event.

Ask For Review? Not a good idea
Reason For No Review

Aforementioned stuff. I definitely wouldn't ask for a review.
I would just approach the situation with care and probably take a lot of care with this venue in the future.

Blog Note 1

Ryan and Scott entered to I'm On a Boat, a reference to some other venue we've never seen...
But we had to interrupt it to play Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy because of the new venue.
(Don't worry, it was planned by the bride, but our acting skills had the venue sweating for a second. lol)

Blog Note 2

The crowd was getting down to 2000's hip-hop, 70's hits, and demanded Sweet Caroline twice.
We usually don't repeat a song, but it was worth it both times.

Blog Note 3

After ending the reception party with Thank You for Being a Friend from the Golden Girls, Ryan and Scott ended the evening with a slow dance to a slower, live version of L-O-V-E by Nat King Cole, led by Gabriel with Ingrid on harmonies and decorative piano fills.

Other Notes

This venue is a medium-sized campus. There are at least 5 different buildings, and a very large, beautifully landscaped yard in the middle. It has a barn theme, but it is very luxurious.
