Blog Note 1

We had the privilege of accompanying Denée for three scheduled numbers:
1. The Spark of Creation from Snapshot: A Musical Scrapbook. She could easily sing this in the original key, but because it was her night, she decided to key it up to add a little excitement.

2. If It's Magic by Stevie Wonder, which was a very sweet look into what Denée Benton feels is magical in the world. I mostly tried to stay out of her way and let her paint the picture she wanted to paint.

Blog Note 2

3. Miss Celie's Blues from The Color Purple. I was especially proud of this one during rehearsal. When I finished playing it, she looked at me with eyebrows up and quickly nodding and said, "That's it. That was just it."

After the numbers were over, she went to the back, and I stood beside the stage to be called if I was needed for the next number, then Denée Benton called me back for an encore!

Blog Note 3

She leaned toward me and sang, "When the rain..."
I quietly hit a D major.
Nope.
I hit a B flat major.
She sang, "is blowing in your face..."
B flat major seven over A, also D minor...
...
B7 over 7 or A flat diminished...
"and the whole world..."

Four
"...is on your case..."
Four minor
"I would offer you a warm embrace..."

Two
"To make you feel my love."
Five
Turnaround...

Three minutes later we received a standing ovation.

ELIZA HAMILTON CALLED ME MAGICAL!!!
Also, I'll upload my music. You don't have to put it into the blog notes if you don't want to, but if you think it looks cool, that'd be cool.

Oh, I also bought a second mic for her. Just a standard Beta. Wanna buy me a mic?
No is a fine answer, but I'm gonna shoot my shot.

The woman in the white dress is Denée Benton's sister. I forgot her name. Sarah Southern should know it. She organized the event. We should honor her in the blog as well.
