Blog Note 1

Our load-in was fairly close to the performance area. The venue was a pro sports arena but we were in a the lobby area which was set up for our after party. Doesn’t matter, I’m going to tell my friends I played an arena!

Blog Note 2

The dinner ran over so people did start arriving until 9pm. The host wanted us playing as people arrived so we started about 8:55 with Into the Mystic and Valerie.

Blog Note 3

The first requests came in immediately but people were still socializing so we didn’t push the singalong and dancing. Our host got everyone’s attention with his amazing rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone which he sang to a track he provided. He had a great operatic voice and it called attention to the show which made it easier for us to get people into it.

Blog Note 4

People danced for like 2-3 songs then would rest and reconnect with their social groups… then they’d get up again and do it all over again. Requests for upbeat stuff came in throughout the show so it was easy to keep the energy up.

Blog Note 5

We played an extra half hour since we started late, ending with New York, New York at 11pm. Then we played DJ tunes until 11:30. Although we felt we only had pockets of success reaching the crowd, our host ensured us that this was the most “into it” that “these lawyers and judges” had been at any after party in the past. He was very happy and complimentary 🙂
