Felix and Fingers were on the move once again last weekend at the Lake Geneva Riviera for the WinterFest. What kind of event is this, you ask? Well, for starters, it’s a parking nightmare. Other than that, it’s actually lots of fun! We were asked by the folks over at the Riviera to provide two hours of dueling pianos for all those who wanted a break from the intense cold outside (and to have a good time singing with us, of course!). We don’t typically play for kids 10 and under, so we were kept on our toes as lots of Disney requests came flooding in throughout the course of the afternoon. Fortunately for me (Felix), my wife has recently fallen in love with the “Frozen” soundtrack after seeing the movie together (guys, don’t judge me), and, as a result, has been singing it over and over in the Felix household. Therefore, when the 6 year old girl walked shyly over to my piano and asked if I could play “Let It Go” from Frozen, I found myself surprisingly equipped to handle it, though I had never sung it before.
This request came in a couple more times throughout the day, so that by the end of the show I was nailing it! Lots of folks were singing and dancing along to our eclectic set of tunes. With request varying from the young and old, we were quickly switching from Disney to Pink Floyd to Katy Perry to Neil Diamond all within a ten minute span. Awesome.
In between our sets, there was another performer named Tom. Just Tom. We asked for his last name, and he just laughed at us like we should know it, so we never did tell him it was a serious question. He was a lot of fun though, and very talented! The guy could play trumpet, piano, and sing all during one song. Very impressive. While he was playing, we took a stroll through the courtyard of the Riviera so we could check out all the ice sculptures. Holy cow are these guys talented! Among the various sculptures, Felix 2.0 (aka Mike Sherman) and I thought the one entitled “Poseidon” was pretty amazing.
Our second set rocked as hard as the first, and yes, there was another request for “Frozen.” We’re thinking about making it a go-to song in all our shows now. So there you have it folks. Another fun and exciting day for Felix and Fingers.
