Normally, we here at Felix and Fingers are encouraged to write blogs about different gigs we’ve played, or new venues we’ve gotten to check out, or new musical acts we’ve seen over the past few weeks. However, I’ve recently been compelled to write a blog about all of the amazing LGBT weddings I’ve been lucky enough to play over my past year with this awesome company.
A New Era For The LGBT Community
The last few years have been a whirlwind of amazing progress for the united states and, more importantly, for LGBT equal rights. From the ruling that DOMA (the defense of marriage act) was unconstitutional, to the recent Supreme Court ruling in favor of same sex marriage in all 50 states, millions of people are receiving equal rights for the first time in our country’s history. All of these new pending nuptuals have provided us with the incredible opportunity of performing for countless incredible new couples all over the country!
Felix and Fingers LOVES LGBT Weddings!
In the last year, I’ve been lucky enough to get to perform dueling pianos in 3 LGBT weddings through Felix and Fingers. Last summer, I flew out to Amarillo Texas to help Chad and Chad (we called them Chad squared) celebrate their amazing day. This past summer, I had the pleasure of witnessing Michael and Krishna exchange vows in a traditional hindu ceremony. I am so touched and honored at the opportunity of performing and sharing in such amazing and historical milestones for our country. Ultimately, we here at Felix and Fingers believe that love is love, and it means so much to us to participate in these amazing celebrations with so many wonderful new couples. Weddings are what we do, and to get to be a part of our nation’s strides toward equality makes it all the more special!
