This past Sunday I got to play at one of the most unique and spirited venues that I have ever played, Cabana’s on the Chain in Johnsburg, IL. Cabana’s is a wacky riverside restaurant that has a beautiful outdoor bar and seating area. It also sported a picnic lawn that went straight to the water, which is where we set up. This was certainly the closest to water I’ve ever been with our thousands of dollars worth of sound equipment! It was a perfect situation, gorgeous weather, great service and thee was an excitement that spread through the audience as we began to play. The crowd was quite an eclectic group. There was a group of ladies celebrating a birthday, multiple families including my own, and a great group of young people that kept the energy level high throughout. One of the best parts about Cabana’s On The Chain is the fact that boats can come right up and dock at the restaurant. Every half hour or so we would have a new audience to appeal to, which kept the requests fresh and the atmosphere exciting.
Things Heat Up at Cabana’s
Throughout the afternoon as the drinks were flowing and the sun was shining, the audience began to let their true colors shine through as they started to sing and dance along to the tunes, including one of the most unique versions of Barbie Girl I have ever performed. One of the women came up and had written an incredible version of I’ve Got Friends in Low Places that was geared towards women who are more seasoned in life. This included a full dance along with all of her friends and the resident “Barbie Girl”. As the day began to wind down the crowd was still itching for more and began to pay per song just to keep up going, growing progressively rowdier until they boiled over into beautiful pandemonium as we played Don’t Stop Believing. We ended up playing over an hour over our time but it was so worth it and everyone in that audience were left smiling.
Music in the Sunshine
Overall, it was an incredible show at one of my new favorite venues. Needless to say, we managed to get some interesting tan lines after playing right in the sun for over 4 hours!Do yourself a favor and check out Cabana’s on the Chain and enjoy some amazing food, some delicious drinks and wonderful atmosphere all set to the backdrop of the beautiful chain o lakes. This is definitely a venue that I will visit again and I would be more than happy to return. Felix And Fingers Dueling Pianos is an obvious choice of high-energy entertainment for any restaurant and bar who want their patrons having fun and spending money.
