Bloomington Minnesota, near Minneapolis, is home to the world-famous Mall of America. Despite many trips to the St Paul/Minneapolis area, this was my first opportunity to visit the mall. Our venue was the illustrious JW Marriott and was brand new, primed for a dueling pianos show!

Corporate Entertainment and Dueling Pianos
Felix and Fingers were at the JW Marriott to perform for Mediacom, the local phone/internet provider. This was their annual corporate event and we were expecting somewhere around 300 people to arrive on a cold January evening. Following cocktails and dinner, Emily and I kicked off the all request sing along show to a great crowd!
1920’s Gatsby Theme
Dressed for the 20’s
The Roaring 20’s theme, or Gatsby theme, has become really popular in the past few years. Due to our root in jazz, our dueling pianos show often starts with background jazz music. Through in some ragtime and trad jazz tunes and we feel right at home with a 1920’s theme!
One of my recent favorite choices with these events is to introduce some Postmodern Jukebox tunes. Postmodern Jukebox is a band known for covering modern pop tunes but in an old-timey way. Imagine “Call me Maybe” as a ragtime piece, or “Bad Romance” as tango. We cover many of their tunes, either as a duo or even as a full band, and can add some musical familiarity to what would otherwise be obscure music to many guests. Let’s be honest, who wants to listen to “5-foot-2, Eyes of Blue” all night?

JW Marriott Minneapolis Mall of America
It’s always a joy being able to play a new venue. The JW Marriott was pristine and had that new hotel smell! The decorations were beautiful and the banquet hall was sure to be well utilized for many events to come. Attached to the Mall of America, Emily and I were able to give ourselves a quick tour of the JW Marriott and the mall itself. After a quick dinner snack from a coffee shop, we were back at the venue ready to start our jazz set.
Dueling Pianos Events
If you’re hosting a corporate event, wedding or fundraiser in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, check out dueling pianos as an option. The all request based show is designed to get crowds engaged by singing along and dancing. There’s no more customized show available! And if you’re looking for the nicest venue in town, you can’t overlook the JW Marriott and its banquet room.
