Corporate Events at the Owensboro Convention center – Wow! Part of the joy of our job is being able to travel and see new venues and the Owensboro Convention Center was fantastic.
Owensboro Convention Center
The Owensboro Convention Center in Kentucky is huge. I have no idea what was happening when we arrived, but the place was packed with people and the energy was great – we were stoked to start performing from the first moment we stepped into the building.
The banquet hall we were in was on an upper floor and boasted a beautiful view of the river and for this event, seating for about 400. The hall was pristine, staff were wonderful, and the stage was perfectly set to rock and roll: corporate holiday party style.
Logan Aluminum
Logan Aluminum had rented out the owensboro convention center for this event and had really done a great job. Managing the large guest list, decorating the room and organizing the time line is a huge task and out friends at Logan Aluminum did so flawlessly. The multiple bars set up was a huge help, the buffet lines moved quickly, and the whiskey bar out front was amazing (more on that later). It was great to put the finishing touches on the event with a high energy dueling pianos show and getting the crowd dancing and singing along. Getting 400 people to compete against each other singing “Brown Eyed Girl” or “Bennie and the Jets” is a unique perk to this job.
Dueling Pianos, Corporate Events, and Whiskey Bars
We have a company policy to not drink during our show, but when there is a super high end Whisky bar available, maybe we’ll swing by after we finish our last dueling set. Mike S and I ordered a 10 year Van Winkle if I recall, which I drank exceptionally slowly.
Where it got interesting though was cleaning up afterwards. The Whiskey Bar was closed and the staff was packing it up to store till the next event. Whoever was moving the large wooden case was maybe a bit over ambitious in his desire to move the case though. As he began to roll the case to storage, it wasn’t more than 6 inches before the castors seized up and the entire case came crashing down. Mike S and I were on our way into the bathroom to change at this point and just happened to witness the toppling.
Thankfully they had removed the bottles of Whiskey first.
But then it got interesting…
Another staff member started to help the poor guy stand the case up as they declined our offer to help, yet after getting the case lifted about 3 feet, it was clear that they weren’t going any further. I literally dropped my clothes and ran to help before what looked to be an inevitable second crash.
We righted the case, but at a cost. Though the whiskey had been taken out, the bottom cabinet remained filled with cans of root beer. Throughout the lifting process, one of the cabinet doors swung open and released all the cans onto the ground, which of course resulted in root beer spraying directly into my face at the perfectly worst time.
We righted the case though and I immediately ran to wash the root beer from my face and clothes before what was going to be a very long drive home.
Holiday Parties
Morale of the story…dueling pianos is great for corporate holiday parties, especially at the Owensboro convention center. We’ll rock the show, the convention center will give you an unmatched facility, and at the end of the night, there might be an impromptu root beer party! Definitely check out the venue though, and if you’d like a dueling pianos quote, it’s as simple as filling in the form below!
