If you’ve never attended the Newell Pride Days public event in Newell, Iowa, you’re missing out! Felix and Fingers provided an upbeat dueling piano show for a crowd of all ages in the Warden Park area. This was Newell’s Town Pride celebration and it happened to fall on the 150th anniversary of the town’s 3 day festival!
Newell Pride Days Public Event Newell Iowa
The Newell Pride Days public event allowed everyone in attendance a chance to see all genders and sexualities in a way that was FUN! Attending Pride events as a family is a great opportunity to spark broader conversations about sexuality and acceptance. But while Pride is always a great time, there were other fun activities that started off in Warden Park. For example, there were free inflatables for kids to jump on and a 5K run/walk the first morning of this festival.
To begin with, blankets and chairs lined the street as the Pride parade snaked down South Fulton. Newell, Iowa is a cozy town of less than 800 people and in all honesty, we think 600 people were in attendance! The Newell Pride Days public event was a wild, colorful gathering that was just plain awesome. In fact, it allowed guests to learn the history of Pride offering ideas on how to support a very important cause. Our performers for the Newell Pride Days public event were Robert Deason and T. Duncan Parker. Furthermore, our energetic duo played in the back of a truck bed in the middle of Warden Park baseball field. It was a very cool, small town vibe!
One Big Awesome Colorful Party!
There’s a reason that the Pride parade and festivals are so popular with queer and straight families alike. It’s one heck of a party! Our crowd soaked up the energy and excitement Robert and Duncan brought to the field. There were guests of all ages hanging out and having a GREAT time so we played everything from Hang on Sloopy by The McCoy’s to Old Town Road by Lil Nas X. During Hang on Sloopy, we changed the shouting of O-H-I-O, to I-O-W-A and the crowd LOVED IT!
Robert and Duncan enjoyed the opportunity to model acceptance and tolerance for the Newell Pride Days public event. We felt LOVED while having a BLAST! Above all, the song of the night was Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini by Brian Hyland. Felix and Fingers knocked it outta the ballpark!
We must say there was a fun guest by the name of Becky keeping up with every song we played. The younger crowd taught her a dance called the Floss and she grooved to it not once, but twice! Overall, this was an amazing singing group. Very on pitch! Our performers made everyone sing in parts at one point. After hearing their participation, we told the whole crowd we were taking them to America’s Got Talent! They were AWESOME!
