Felix and Fingers love performing at unique venue locations. Speaking of unique, we packed up and drove out to Dubuque, Iowa to play at the Loras College wedding event. Not only is Loras College rich in history, but offers multiple facility rentals from 4-400 guests for your special day! Just minutes from downtown Dubuque with onsite catering, Loras College will exceed your event expectations. Congratulations Katie and Dan!
Loras College Wedding Event Dubuque
Felix and Fingers were greeted by friendly Loras College staff directing them to the Marie Graber Ballroom reception. Our performers for the Loras College wedding event were Mike Scott and Mike Potts. We couldn’t be happier with the easy load in of our pianos across the ballroom floor. In all honesty, this was one of the first times we’ve played a wedding on a college campus. We thought it was awesome! To begin with, the bride and groom had a 2 hour cocktail party at the Loras College Pub in the Alumni Campus Center. This means everyone showed up at the Marie Gruber Ballroom ready for a wild and crazy night! As a result of the reception being an open seating plan guests mixed and mingled in a relaxed atmosphere.
Katie and Dan had food stations placed around the ballroom therefore guests could help themselves at their leisure. For example, there was never a short line at the pizza and wing station. There were also fresh fruit salads and side dishes such as deviled egg potato salad that were quite the hit. On the other hand, there was an incredible mini cupcake station in lieu of a traditional wedding cake. Everyone agreed the cupcakes were indeed outstanding!
Beat-Boxing and Polka Dancing
Felix and Fingers performed I’m Yours by Jason Mraz for the bride and grooms first dance. This was indeed a beautiful dance as the bride wore a stunning mermaid style dress that shimmered with every move. After the first dance, Felix and Fingers had difficulty containing our excitement as we were in on a secret. The bride’s father and his friends came out on the dance floor with an accordion and trumpet. A surprise father/daughter polka dance had everyone on their feet by the end of the song. The crowd loved it! Eventually, one of our performers beat-boxed Billie Jean by Michael Jackson. To tell the truth, this was one of the first times Felix and Fingers received a standing ovation for a beat-boxing performance.
What’s a party without grandma and her scotch? Grandma Kay is a 92 year old scotch drinking party matriarch. In fact, Grandma Kay is known for her incredible scotch induced dance moves. Speaking about scotch, the bride and groom provided Grandma Kay with several bottles of high end scotch at the Loras College wedding event. As a result of the high end scotch, Grandma Kay burned up the dance floor while keeping her word partying longer than anyone else in attendance!
