Last weekend, Felix and Fingers made a trip to Ankeny, IA to provide entertainment for the NewLink Genetics holiday party. This didn’t seem too out of the ordinary for us, as December is typically chock full of events like this for us. However, when we got to the FFA Enrichment Center on the Des Moines Area Community College campus, we learned who we were performing for, and it instantly became a very special night.
NewLink Genetics
NewLink Genetics is a company that develops advanced treatments for various cancers, focusing on immunotherapy. Recently, though, they’ve been instrumental in helping to treat and better understand the Ebola virus. The impact they’ve had on the lives of people all over the world has been huge, and it was extremely humbling to play for such a special group of people. They’ve dedicated their lives to helping others, so the least we could do was dedicate our night to helping them have a good time. Luckily, the staff at the FFA Enrichment Center at DMACC seemed to have the same prerogative!

FFA Enrichment Center
College campus isn’t necessarily the first thing that comes to mind when I think of a place to have a big party, but the FFA Enrichment Center did not disappoint! It was a very large space with high tech additions that make it a great place to host any kind of event! There were large projection screens, and a very cool sound system operated by touch screens built into the walls! I think the greatest asset of this venue, though, was how helpful the staff was in putting the event together. They were ready and willing to help well before the start of the event, and quick to answer any questions any of the clients (or vendors!) had.
We got an unbelievable number of requests that night from all sorts of genres, and some hilarious ones I don’t believe I’ve seen before! But the reason I’ll never forget this particular show isn’t realizing the Lonely Island is far more popular than we anticipated. It’s because for just a couple of hours, we helped give a little break to a group of amazing people who really, really deserved it.
