Felix and Fingers traveled to Bloomington, Indiana on New Year’s Eve for the Indiana Memorial Union Wedding of Amy and Kyle. It was a special night indeed celebrating the new couple and the New Year!
Indiana Memorial Union Wedding
The Memorial Union building is part of Indiana University. We performed in two rooms for this event. First, for the ceremony in the Frangipani Room and then in the Tudor Room for the reception. It’s a really cool venue with a great vibe. Wood parquet floors, incredibly high ceilings, and stunning wood work make this building a sight to see. It dates from 1932 and the craftsmanship is truly remarkable. They also have a great wedding planning team that will be there to make sure all goes well. Their on-site catering is phenomenal as well and will have your mouth watering. Your guests will definitely be impressed with this high quality, extremely charming venue. Full of Touching Moments
For starters, the mother of the bride gave a touching speech in which she referenced the television show “Friends.” She then requested the song I’ll Be There For You by The Rembrandts and danced with her daughter. That is the theme song to the show if you didn’t know and the moment was very special, indeed. Then the bride gave a great speech. She had actually worked at the venue and while she had seen many grooms making speeches, she had never seen the brides do so. She wanted the chance to thank the guests and talk about what the day meant for her. Amy did a great job with this and everyone was moved by her words.
Shortly after we started, the couple wanted to hear Walking in Memphis by Marc Cohn. We’re usually leery of playing a medium tempo or slow song at the beginning of our show. It always seems to work better to have a lot of up tempo songs in the beginning. But this group had no problem with it and everyone was singing along. Another highlight was the song This Is Indiana. Go figure, we were at Indiana University. We paused at midnight for Auld Lang Syne. Very necessary for a New Year’s Eve wedding. The group requested we play Garth Brook’s I’ve Got Friends in Low Places as the final song and it was a great way to close out a very successful evening.
