July was Felix and Fingers’ first event at The Prairie Street Brewhouse in Rockford, and before discussing the wedding entertainment, let’s just say wow…what a gorgeous venue! From the Rock River location, to the urban chic downstairs bar, and then all the exposed brick throughout the venue, it’s definitely a cool place (especially so far outside of Chicago!). Oh, and it’s a brew house, so can a venue get any better? No, no it can’t.
And it’s in Rockford! Who needs the headache that comes with Chicago Wedding venues? There was nothing missing at the great Rockford Wedding reception.
Congrats to Darren and Brian!
This wedding was our second same-sex couple this wedding season, and they definitely did it with style. This Sunday Afternoon wedding had the ceremony in the reception hall itself, followed by a cocktail hour and dinner with the opportunity for river cruises on the Forest City Queen River Boat. And then of course, unbridled dueling pianos fun afterwards! And from the get go, we were ready for our first Prairie Street Brewhouse event to be a success.
Why Clink Glasses?
There is an over used wedding tradition in which the bride and groom are signaled to kiss each other when their guests begin to “clink” their wine glasses. Though the guests mean well, for many couples, there is nothing more annoying. Brian and Darren had a solution.
Instead of the traditional clinking of glasses, the couple provided a large basket of Hersey’s Kisses. Half were gold, half were purple. If someone wanted the couple to kiss, they had to visit the basket and pick a Hersey’s Kiss. Purple meant that the couple had to kiss each other. Gold…well that meant the couple chose who the “picker” had to kiss, which inevitably makes the dinner hour a bit more interesting. We were glad though to see a new option that people took to whole heartedly – I now recommend it to all my brides and grooms.
Prairie Street Brewhouse, the venue
Prairie Street Brewhouse is definitely a perfect wedding venue. If it’s a nice day you have limitless options for pictures outside, on the water, or anywhere in the Rockford area. The venue worked marvelously as a ceremony venue as well, where in the couple can be wed on a raised walkway that overlooks the main level of the reception hall. And talk about room for dancing! The entire venue could be a gigantic dance floor if need be (and I’m sure they are when hosting large bands).
I eagerly look forward to our next opportunity to perform at Prairie Street Brewhouse, whether that is a wedding, corporate show, or even public event (as I know they often have live entertainment). It’s really a great Chicago style venue without the Chicago style hassles!
