OK, so our dueling pianos show at the Hilton Garden Inn Rockford wasn’t Japanese specifically, but there were many Japanese elements to it. First of all, the Bride and Groom had spent several years in Japan and actually got married out of country wearing a Kimono. She proudly had it displayed for the celebration. So technically this wasn’t a “wedding.” It was an awesome wedding celebration though!
Turning Japanese at the Hilton Garden Inn Rockford
Was that headline offensive? It wasn’t meant to be. I’ll get clarification from the Vapors. Ok loosing my train of thought… Other Japanese elements? First off, Greg, my partner for the day, spent ten years living in Japan. He met his wife there and speaks fluently. Furthermore, I (Mike Sherman) was actually born in Japan. My dad was in the navy so I lived there for the first six months of my life. I am NOT fluent. Nonetheless, we were both very excited when we heard the theme for the celebration at the Hilton Garden Inn Rockford was Japanese.
Party Time at Hilton Garden Inn Rockford
After a chill dinner, we started the dueling pianos and dancing! There were a lot of teachers there. As any educator will tell you, teachers know how to have fun and let loose. As a result, we had a lot of great requests and Greg even stuck in a few Japanese songs. There was even a bride and groom that Greg and I had played for two years earlier who were guests at this wedding. It was great seeing them again!
I even sang a song that included all of the worst songs ever written, which definitely includes “I Think I’m Turning Japanese” by The Vapers. See, now my reference earlier makes sense!
