As the head blogger for Felix and Fingers, I write about weddings and parties from all over the country. Yet I was especially excited when I saw we were going to a Monte’s Riverside Inn wedding in Ottawa, Illinois as that is my home town. I went to many functions there as a child and young adult so this blog post has me a little nostalgic.
Monte’s Riverside Inn Wedding
You can find Monte’s Riverside Inn right on the banks of the Fox River in Ottawa, Illinois. This is a classic restaurant that has been in town for many decades. It’s the go to place for any Ottawa native who has a special event to celebrate. You will find the food to be delicious and well presented. For this particular wedding party we sampled cocktail shrimp, beef tenderloin, and pork medallions. This small reception was a cocktail and passed heavy hors d’oeuvres affair, not a sit down formal dinner. This was a nice, out of the box twist on a wedding celebration and we loved it. Irish Theme with a Little California
After a gorgeous wedding ceremony at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the party arrived at Monte’s in the mood for some great food, good drinks, and of course, a Felix and Fingers Dueling Piano show. And no one was disappointed. One of the restaurant staff had never heard of us before and couldn’t believe we could play Lady Gaga and other pop music on the piano. We showed her how it’s done and humbly took her apology for doubting us. But back to the wedding party.
The bride and groom had decorated the banquet area with an Irish theme. There were multiple plaques with Irish sayings and other great green decor. They definitely stuck to the theme of an Irish wedding. Many of their family came in from California so we played several songs with a California theme too. This was one wild and crazy fun group of guests. Probably for the first time ever we had the dance floor packed with The Lion King, Jimmy Buffett, Flogging Molly, Elvis, and Lady Gaga consecutively. In fact, as Mike sang Lion King, one guest carried another across the dance floor…Simba style. Another highlight of the evening was playing “Thunderstruck.” We haven’t played this one since college. So were were pretty amused when they lined up 20 beers on our piano and went to town!
