Once a quarry, this 1,100-acre forest preserve now surrounds a beautiful lake for swimming, fishing, kayaking, ice skating and more. It’s a real treat for those in the Chicago area wondering where they can get away from the hustle and bustle.
With plenty of wild life and scenic views, it comes as no surprise at all that it makes an excellent choice for a wedding.
We played this event from the ceremony to the end. I loved their song selections for the ceremony and the first dances. The wedding party walked down the aisle to Feather Song (from Forest Gump.) It’s a beautiful piece by Alan Silvestri. Of course there was a full half-hour or so of seating music with other songs that were suggested by the bride.
For the Father/Daughter dance I played “Wonderful Tonight.” I did my best to channel that soft head voice that Eric Clapton uses for that song, and I just remember that there was an older gentleman sitting near me, who was thrilled with my rendition.
All the while of performing these wonderful songs, we had an amazing view of the lake through a wall of windows that stretched from the floor to the ceiling. It made things quite relaxing.
Of course we switched gears for the reception. And for the first time ever, I had a “must-play” request of “Give It Away” by The Red Hot Chili Peppers. It might not have been a song for everyone, but the bridesmaid that wanted to hear it so badly easily compensated for the energy as she thrashed about on the dance floor, like you’d expect from a Chili Peppers fan.
It was entertaining, and as always, I’m glad that I was able to help create such moments!
