Felix and Fingers drove out this past weekend to the VFW in Freeport, IL for another night of dueling pianos! On one of the few remaining nicer fall nights, we loaded into the homey atmosphere of the second VFW I’ve ever played in. It was everything you’d want it to be. Full bar, great food (by the looks of the prime rib!), and a room full of people sticking around for dueling pianos later on that evening. I always love it when we get a mixed demographic for an audience. Basically it means the show will be more interesting, and, to me, more fun. It means we won’t ONLY be playing Taylor Swift (though we did play “Shake it Off”), or ONLY Journey (though we did play “Shake it Off” again – kidding).
Featured Dueling Pianos Entertainment
We began this show like any other- high energy with a mixture of scanning/analyzing the crowd to gauge reaction in order to determine where to go from there. Never a canned show- never a dull moment. Always on your toes, and always searching for that perfect song to identify what that “sweet spot” will be for that evening. This time around the evening was more of a comedic featured show that included singing as opposed to the other way around. Sometimes the crowd just wants to laugh. Maybe that’s the standard for a VFW. I wouldn’t know, but what I DO know is we’ll be heading back to the Freeport VFW before the year is out if all goes to plan! The owner, Byron, was a great host. Friendly, hospitable, and very complimentary. We actually got both him and his dad on the mic to sing along during the show, which was a lot of fun (his dad had some unanticipated dance moves). Bottom line – look for us to be coming back to the Freeport VFW before the year is over. We hope to see you at our next show!
