Corporate event season is underway and our Dueling Pianos show was scheduled to play at the Crystal Lake Holiday Inn. Located in McHenry county and the far northwest suburbs, Crystal Lake is my (Fingers) hometown. And the only thing better than playing to a hometown venue is being able to connect with a hometown business – Black Diamond Plumbing and Mechanical.
Holiday Inn Crystal Lake
Crystal Lake, though having a 35k+ population, isn’t exactly the land of event venues. Hotel options are limited (there are very few reasons to come to town if you don’t live here) and banquet facilities are few in number. The Holiday Inn, on the other hand, has been something of a landmark for as long as I can remember. Located on Rt 31 on the south side of the city, the Holiday Inn can’t be missed while driving into town. They have an almost 20,000 sq foot conference space, and that was where we had the pleasure of performing this particular evening.
Black Diamond Plumbing and Mechanical
If the holiday is something of a landmark, Black Diamond would the the equivalent in the plumbing and mechanical world. I can’t remember a time when I wouldn’t hear their jingle on the local radio station. Honestly, if I needed a plumber, they are the first company to come to mind (and I’ve definitely used there services in the past!). Being able to celebrate the season with them though was truly a gift.
Black Diamond is a family run business, and from the moment we walked in, we felt like part of the family. We were invited to sit at the owner’s table for dinner, which included many conversations about his wife’s unbelievable Elvis Presley collection. Though I haven’t yet had the opportunity to see it, I believe the collection ranges from clothing to original lyrics in his Elvis’s hand writing. Dinner was great and it’s always a testament to the best companies when, even though we’re there to perform, we’re treated like guests. We rarely see this hospitality and Black Diamond proved to me that night why they’re such a successful company.
Dueling Pianos Corporate Show
But alas….we did have a show to play! It was a great time and as the night went on and the guests loosened up, we could really start to interact and have fun. Black Diamond has a very memorable jingle that I’ve heard on the radio hundreds of times growing up, and until tonight, I had never given it much thought. Based on the melody of Dean Martin’s “That’s Amore”, the Black Diamond jingle closed out the show in a rousing fashion. Getting everyone to sing the classic Dean Martin song and then drop in the company lyrics was the perfect way to end a sing along dueling pianos show.
