Felix and Fingers performed for a Civic Center Plaza fundraiser in Qunicy, IL, right along the Mississippi River. This was the Denim and Diamond’s 60th-anniversary fundraiser to help raise money for the Good Samaritan Home of Quincy. We were excited to play for such a special event as well as play in such a cool venue.
The Venue
The Civic Center Plaza had a huge stage and auditorium for the fundraiser. Beautifully decorated tables filled the room with flowers and centerpieces at the middle of each table. The candles at each table and string lights that hung from the ceiling lit most of the room, while the overhead lights shined on us. We had a large stage to perform on. As well, the dance floor out in front of us that resembled a checkerboard of sorts. Additionally, the venue had helpful and attentive staff that made the evening flow more smoothly. Moreover, they had some of the best hors-d’oeuvres we had tried in a long time. Overall we thought this was a great venue.
Civic Center Plaza Fundraiser
For this particular event, we had more of a senior citizen crowd and they sat a bit farther away from the stage which worried us, but the crowd pleasantly surprised us. We had lots of requests and a good amount of dancing. One couple came up together and requested “The Way You Look Tonight” by Frank Sinatra and waltzed all around the dance floor. They seemed to have been married for quite a long time but danced and looked at each other like they were still in their twenties.
Another memorable moment for us was when Duncan played a fun version of “That’s Amore” while entertaining guests with showing them how to gesture like an Italian. As for the fundraiser side of it all, plenty of donations came through to a great cause. We ended up raising one-hundred dollars ourselves to have the GM sing “Bohemian Rhapsody” which all of the guests absolutely loved. We had a great turnout and enjoyed playing for this group and this Civic Center Plaza fundraiser.
