The Chester VFW Fundraiser was a great event to raise money for St. Mary’s Catholic School. The town of Chester is about as far as one can go in Illinois without crossing the border into Missouri. We were happy that it was at least 15 degrees warmer there than our home base in the Chicago area. February is a cold, cold month up here.
Chester VFW Fundraiser for St. Mary’s
Felix and Fingers found a great group of people in Chester to raise money for St. Mary’s. We figure this must be a wonderful school since they have such a nice group of families and staff. Our performers, Chris and Robert, had a blast with this group. We are happy to report that the fundraiser was a huge success and we are honored that we were able to help. Talk about helping, the local VFW donated the space for this event. Yes, totally free of charge! That is quite impressive since the money that would normally go to a venue can now be used solely for the school.
The folks at the Chester VFW seemed quite helpful and happy to have us. We were impressed with their welcoming nature as well as their well kept facility. We set up our pianos on the small stage in front of the room and there was plenty of room left for dancing. The stage is backed by a very large American flag and Robert’s rendition of God Bless America was a stunning finale. Instead of catering, the event was billed as picnic style. Families and friends brought in their own dinners and bought only their drinks from the VFW bar. The bar proceeds also went back to St. Mary’s which further impressed us with the VFW’s generosity. Please click here for the VFW’s Facebook page. They are very friendly and we’re sure can help you with whatever event you might be planning.
We Take All Kinds of Tips
If you’ve been to one of our performances, you know that placing a tip with your song request is a good way to ensure we will play your song. And from a fundraiser’s standpoint, we donate those tips back to your organization. It’s just one of the ways we have of making your fundraiser a huge success. But at the Chester VFW Fundraiser, the St. Mary’s crowd also decided we needed to be tipped with treats. Chris, especially, loved being tipped with cakes and pastries and while everything was delicious, both of our performers left a little too full of sweets. This was a great group of very fun people. As far as the type of music we played, this group wanted to hear everything. We played some great old torch songs with Frank Sinatra’s The Way You Look Tonight and Ella Fitzgerald’s Dream a Little Dream of Me. We headed into some classic rock with ACDC’s Highway to Hell which struck us as funny since our client was a church school. Country music was a huge hit and we played such songs as Chicken Fried by the Zac Brown Band and Just a Kiss by Lady Antebellum. It was an all around fun night at the Chester VFW and we raised hundreds of dollars for St. Mary’s.
