Felix and Fingers Dueling Pianos recently played their third show at the Aurora Country Club in Aurora IL, this time for the closing of the ACC centennial event. F&F have been friends of the Aurora Country Club since a wedding they performed there last year, and had since returned for a 60th Birthday party earlier this season. From Weddings to private parties to country club events, we specialize in finding the right entertainment option for any high end function.
Aurora Country Club: The Venue
I remember the wedding that we played last season, specifically because everything was so beautiful. From the Ceremony grounds outside the club house to the beautifully decorated banquet hall, the Aurora Country Club is certainly a classy place! In the three events we’ve entertained, we’ve been set up in three different arrangements, based on the needs of the event space. This particular event was smaller than the previous two, allowing the venue to utilize an air wall to separate the dinner room from the cocktail space (which was a perfect option). Guests arrived around 6:30, enjoyed a vast array of appetizer options (the bacon wrapped scallops were exceptional!), and eventually made their way into the dining area.
Dinner and Background Jazz
This dinner never ended! We knew the guests were in for a special treat when we saw each place setting included 5 wine glasses. I don’t know exactly how many courses were served, but just hearing the wait staff describe the meal would make someone feel full. Felix and Fingers performed our typical jazz set while the Country Club members had dinner.
For those of you who don’t know, F&F started out as a jazz duo way back when. Background jazz has always been in our repertoire and we love to include it when ever possible. It definitely helps when Dave was on American Idol for his Frank Sinatra sound! (BTW, he finished in the top ten guys of season 5)
Dueling Pianos Packs the Dance Floor
Going into the show, we had no idea what type of approach we’d need to adopt to play into the interests on the audience. This was a more mature crowd than the typical wedding, so Black Eyed Peas were out. And considering we started the dueling show right towards the end of dinner, we wanted to start slow to get the audience warmed up. After some popular jazz tunes (At Last and The Way You Look Tonight), we went into some Elvis and Rock and Roll. The dance floor filled up immediately with swing dancers and couples enjoying themselves. I don’t know if it was the 5 glasses of wine, but this group was immediately enjoying themselves. Oddly enough, I don’t believe we received a single request. Everyone was dancing so much, there was no reason to stop the show!

Dueling Pianos + Drums
Our show not only included our full size grand piano shells, but also had us bring out a drummer. Though many of our performances don’t use more than just two people, it’s always a blast having a drummer on stage to liven up the music. The piano shells additionally add a lot to the look of the event, and it’s just more fun to play when you sit down at a 6 foot grand piano (even if they are only shells!).
The Aurora Country Club is one of our favorite venues, and whether you’re considering it for a wedding, corporate event or birthday party, they always do a great job. The staff is wonderful and management couldn’t be nicer, which really does make a difference when you entrust your event to a venue.
We look forward to what will hopefully be many return visits. Thanks Aurora Country Club!
