For four days, Felix and Fingers entertained with Christmas and Holiday selections at Spring Hill Mall in Dundee, IL.
It was a great time, and everyone in the association had a chance to play music for the four-day event.
It was a request show like any other, but it was geared towards holiday songs. Can you imagine how many times we played Jingle Bells, when asking children what their favorite Christmas song was? The smiles on their faces made it worth it every time. And of course, we tried to change up our tempo and style now and then to keep repeated songs interesting.
With our new wireless microphones, Mike Sherman made a point of not waiting for people to come to us to make a request. Instead, he would approach the crowd. This new interaction was successful and fun.
And let me tell you, there is nothing Mike can’t play. Even when he was challenged with songs from the Nutcracker or other tricky arrangements, he pulled it off with no problem. Yet even more obscure was a comedy selection by Adam Sandler called Chanukah Song.
He played it as if he had done it a million times, and the crowd (especially the group that requested it) absolutely loved it!
Guest Violinists Join The Stage And Surprise Everyone
Despite all the cheer and fun, there was a show-stopping moment, when two talented young ladies approached us and asked if they could play a song with us. They seemed confident enough, and we would have welcomed them regardless. Without sheet music or even being told what song we were going to play the joined right in on key.
Jim sang O Holy Night, and they accompanied him on piano. I wasn’t needed, which was more than fine, because I’m happy that I got it captured on video.
I wonder if we’ll ever find out who our mystery guests were? Hey, give us a shout out if you ever come across your video!
